John W. Coyle, III was born in Oklahoma City on March 7, 1948. He attended Harding High School in Oklahoma City, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma City University in 1971. He then attended law school at Oklahoma City University, graduating in 1974.

Mr. Coyle has been practicing criminal defense law since 1974, and is admitted to practice in all federal courts in Oklahoma and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits.

Mr. Coyle has been the recipient of the Clarence Darrow Award for Oklahoma’s Outstanding Criminal Defense Lawyer by the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Barry Albert Award for Excellence in Advocacy by the Oklahoma County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer and from 1989 through 1997 taught the Oklahoma Bar Review in Criminal Law and Procedure.

He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Oklahoma County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the First Amendment Lawyers Association. He is a Master in the Holloway American Inns of Court and is a 2000 graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming.

Mr. Coyle is peer review AV rated by Martindale Hubbell and listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, Oklahoma Super Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Coyle brings 36 years of proven experience to the table in helping stick up for his clients.

John is married to Julee Coyle, a political activist for women's health issues and past president of Planned Parenthood. They have three sons and a daughter. His hobbies include golf, his children and grandson.
